He was born in February 1899 in Tasmania. He joined the Australian army even though he was under age and he arrived at Gallipoli in October 1915. He got Influenza (the flu) at war, and soon after became better, only to get it a few more times. He was sent back to Australia a year later because of his sickness. After that he lived a long life (103 years exactly) and died in May 2002. He was buried in Hobart. He was the last ANZAC to die.
